This post is the 1st installment of our Funny Signs in China series.
Indeed, we didn't see one frip in the whole place. It turns out frippery actually is an English word.
"LOOKOUT, KNOCK HEAD" in that order.
Ok, the story goes like this: at some point in time someone took someone else's inkslab from this room. And at some later point they returned the very same inkslab.
Beware the angry Chinese fire hose.
Welcome to the Buddhism Store!
We especially like the capitalization here: My Official Hat.
One China, one time zone, one toilet fits all.
This is a surprisingly common sign.
I LOVE THIS SIGN!!!! DON'T BEAT AROUND THE BUSH!
At the end of a long day we went to the oldest restaurant in Suzhou (old enough, supposedly, to have served some emperor or another in some dynasty) and they sat us on the dais ordinarily reserved for weddings and bar mitzvahs.
OK, for you math & LaTeX people out there, the price of movie tickets here are irrational numbers! (And to get VIP tickets you need to solve for tau.)
Here's some closeups of the worms from the Suzhou Silk Museum

Elana will love these links later. I was out of town last week at GFC so David had the girls to himself. I know they were reading every day but I think it was too much to write back as well.
I am so excited to journey with you thru your blog-this is one of the best uses of technology EVER!

Dear Uncle Seth,
THe funny potty is weird becuase the pee pee goes on the floor. Are all the pottys like that in China? I would not want to go to China if they are all like that.
Dear Aunt Liz,
The worms are "ridlicous" (ridiculous) because they don't look like worms.
Are there kids in China? Can you send pictures of them?
I love all the lots of pictures. Thank you!
Love,
ELANA HARR

Dear Elana,
Many but not all of the toilets are like the ones in the picture. The chair over the toilet is unusual. Luckily, we have 'western' style toilets in our home. Although, when I was in the peace corps in Jordan, I had a floor toilet.
There are lots of children here. In the last slide show of our new post, you can see a little girl cooking street food with her dad. We will try to take more pictures of kids.
The worms look funny but they make a beautiful fabric called silk.
Love,
Aunt Liz and Uncle Seth.
